Not out yet, but already now one of our winter favorites: Vakant’s new signing Jeremy & Walker. The Duo’s debut on Alex Knoblauchs imprint comes up with 2 tracks + a wonderful remix by Mr. Milano Avatism. Out on February 27th, we present you now just some thoughts on the tracks by the artists themselves to be followed by some snippets later this week!

Bedouin
The Essence of ‚Bedouin’ came from a long studio jam. While jamming I told Walker of an experience I had after visiting my parents in Dubai. I returned home and played at Watergate until early morning, I felt overwhelmed from what I had seen in one day: the skyscrapers of Dubai, the stunning beauty of the desert, the return home. Everything seemed so surreal, Walker had lived in Santa Fe and knew the power of the desert. We spoke of how nomads & Bedouins lived with a great lack of permanence and commented how DJ’s & musicians are similar. Eventually we jammed all night, developing the hook while Walker added detail and instrumentation. We barely spoke. At the end, we sat silently and agreed “there’s our ‚Bedouin’.”

After the Eclipse
The idea for ‚After the Eclipse’ arrived in my brain while playing an after party in San Francisco. The spot looked out towards the downtown skyline. As the party progressed, the moon rose and a lunar eclipse became the sublime backdrop for our gathering. Back in Berlin I transcoded the feelings and thoughts into a sketch. At this point Jeremy and I were deep into finishing Bedouin and hitting our stride in the studio. Our conversations from years together had become a shared musical framework, causing the sketch to evolve fairly effortlessly. We passed sessions back and forth elaborating and then distilling. After separate New Years escapades, we merged the directions until finally, ‚After the Eclipse’ jumped out of the monitors.

Winter in Europe, summer in Argentina, that flip side of seasons seems to have effect, here we go with the second release from Mr. Galante aka Seph! His debut to legendary Cityfox from Zurich, Billy and his mates’ imprint alongside the notorious nights all over Switzerland…
Seph – Suzbu EP – Cityfox CF014
Seph comes to Cityfox with his hands full of bass energy in the form of the Suzbu EP. Three tracks which will blow away your speaker. ’Genbu’ doesn’t play around, a highlight from Seph’s live shows over the past years, it goes straight to the point with the deep bass and kick. With whirring, like a machine powering up after a long hibernation. Vocal lines make you mad as the melody repeats. ’High energy’ is a great way to begin explaining this track. ’Suzaku’, also a recent highlight from his live shows, picks it right up where ’Genbu’ left off, with vocal cuts, rubber basses and wide synth melodies. Thick and sharp, Techno at one of it’s finest moments. Last but not least we come to ’Unti’. A creepy world of machines and percussion leading you through the night, making your way to groovy basslines and cool melody.

We almost forgot: our blog turned 1 year… on the 10th of January. It’s a capricorn, how lovely. 635 articles, 815 tags, … some more details? There you go: first article was about the multiple roles of an booking agent (perfectly proved by this blog!), busiest day was May 3rd, 2011. Most clicked link was our own Podcast at harrykleinclub.de, most people find us via Google and Facebook (not such a big surprise), the most read articles were: ADE. Dario in Colombia. Our artist’s 2011 photo review. Violett’s 88:Q&A. Fabrizio’s Podcast. Ah, and the Family, Friends and Fairies is the also on top of the clicks, but not a “real” article… So, looking forward to article 1000! And a big “Danke schön” to all artists handing in so much content! <3 <3 <3

We just updated our overview of upcoming releases and yes, there is a lot to come up this winter and spring, phew… for instance this one, hitting stores in 2 weeks: Dario Zenker – The Move Clean EP. Finally back on Vakant! Below the press infos!
After a couple of excursions on his own and other imprints, Sir Dario Zenker is back on Vakant with the label’s first release for 2012. 5 tracks that almost make a mini album but with pretty much individual tunes, with a touch of the more dark and sinister side of Vakant, the label is known for since the early days.
Starting with ‘Where Are You’, a haunting yet hoping track that once again takes Dario as close to Detroit as one can get while living in the capital of Bavaria.
Next one is ‘Hype’, less elusive than the opener, with a heavy drum pattern that demands a strong sound system to flower out completely.
‘Steppin To’ carries a bass line as thick and heavy as it can be and might be the most moody track of this package.
Two more, ‘Works’ and ‘Tassel’, but we leave it up to you to discover, as writing about music we think is very limited due to its nature.
